You’re working out consistently. You’re cutting back on sweets. You’ve even swapped your soda for sparkling water. So why do you still feel stuck?

Let us say this loud and clear: If you’re showing up and putting in the work, you deserve to see progress. But sometimes, the reason you’re not getting the results you want has nothing to do with how hard you’re working—and everything to do with how you’re supporting your body outside the gym.
Here are 5 sneaky reasons your progress might be stalling—and what to do about it.
1. You’re Not Eating Enough (Especially Early in the Day)
This is the big one. Most people think they need to eat less to lose weight or get leaner—but in reality, under-fueling is one of the fastest ways to sabotage your progress.
At CrossFit Skyway, we see it all the time: coffee and protein powder in the morning… followed by a full-on snack raid at 9 PM.
When your body doesn’t get the nutrients it needs early in the day—especially after a workout—it sends out stress signals, increases cravings, and clings to body fat. The fix? Front-load your fuel. Eat a real meal with protein, carbs, and fat within a few hours of waking up. Your cravings will decrease, your energy will stabilize, and your workouts will feel way better.
2. You’re Skimping on Sleep
Sleep is the unsung hero of fat loss, performance, and mood regulation. Even if you’re getting 6-7 hours, if you’re waking up multiple times, scrolling in bed, or eating right before sleep, your recovery is compromised.
Quick wins:
- Put your phone across the room (or out of the bedroom entirely)
- Set a consistent bedtime and wake time
- Stop eating at least 2–3 hours before bed
Your muscles, your metabolism, and your mindset will thank you.
3. You’re Dehydrated (Yes, Still)
You think you’re drinking enough… but most people are chronically dehydrated and don’t realize how much that impacts their energy, cravings, and recovery. Add in Florida heat and a CrossFit workout? You’re in the danger zone.
Hydration goals:
- Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day
- Add electrolytes (like LMNT—available at the gym) to support proper absorption
- Start your day with 8–16 oz of water before your coffee
4. You’re All-In… Until the Weekend
Weekday warrior, weekend wanderer—we’ve been there. You crush your food and workouts Monday through Friday, but by Saturday afternoon, it’s a free-for-all.
Progress doesn’t require perfection, but it does require consistency. Start by keeping your hydration, protein, and sleep habits strong even on the weekends, and you’ll notice your Monday slump disappears.
5. You’re Focused on the Wrong Metrics
The scale is just one data point—and it’s not always the best one. At CrossFit Skyway, we love using InBody scans to track muscle mass, body fat, and water levels. Because guess what? You can gain muscle, lose fat, and have the scale stay exactly the same.
Better metrics to focus on:
- How your clothes fit
- Your strength gains
- Your energy levels
- Your consistency
Here’s the Good News
You don’t need to overhaul your life to start seeing results. Small changes—eating a real breakfast, going to bed 30 minutes earlier, adding electrolytes to your water—can create huge ripple effects.
And you don’t have to do it alone.
