Five Ways For Parents To Fit In Work Outs

So now that you have kids it's a little harder to work out than it used to be. No more impromptu visits to the gym, now you're lucky if you can find five minutes for yourself each day. But don’t despair, there is hope; you just have to get a little creative. Here are a few tips for how to fit in that much needed work out:

Early bird special - Work outs in the early morning are a great way to start the day. If you can exercise before the kids get up, you don’t have to worry about finding time to fit it in the rest of the day; it’s already done. Plus now you’ll be more energized to handle the little ones once they get up.

Under The Stars - If you’re not a morning person, working out once the kids are all tucked in might be more to your liking. An evening workout can be a great time to clear your head and has been proven to help you sleep better at night.

Create A Schedule - As they say, failing to plan is planning to fail. If you want to get in those weekly work outs, decide when they’ll fit at the beginning of the week and organize other activities around the plan. Don’t wait until the schedule is full and your feeling drained, make the plan beforehand so you don’t have to worry about it later.

It Doesn’t Have To Be All or Nothing - Just because the kids wake up in the middle of the night or won’t go to bed when you are ready to lace up your cross trainers doesn’t mean all is lost. Remember that even if a scheduled work out gets missed, you still can try to fit something in later in the day or get back on track tomorrow. Don’t let one rough day turn into a week of missed exercise.

Tag Team - You want to go to the gym but who's going to watch the kids? Maybe you and your partner can trade kid duty so you each get a chance to hit the weights. Or maybe  one of your friends has small children as well and you can watch theirs while they get in a work out and vice versa. When you share the kid watching duties and you both get in workouts, it’s a win-win.
